Aquilla’s Secret

Posted January 28th, 2010 by Acquisitioner

Yes, it’s true. Our marine iguana has a secret, and he can’t hold back anymore. We’ll let this little green guy speak for himself:

“They say I’m a special iguana ‘cuz I’m not a land iguana – I’m a watery one. They say, ‘You dive in the ocean, Aquilla. Isn’t that cool? You eat seaweed and hold your breath real long.’

But I don’t.

Truth is, I’m scared of water. They call this iron-ey here. I don’t know what that is. I just wish they weren’t all saying things like, ‘Go, Aquilla! Swim! Go get your food at the bottom of the water.’

I wish I could just stay dry all the time. That’s why I was so excited to become a stuffed animal. I thought, ‘Hey, this will be great. Nobody puts their stuffed animals in water. Stuffed animals just lay on beds, or hide in toy boxes.’

But now that Zookeeper knows I’m a special Galapagos-Island sea-water animal, they are always putting me in places with big pools of cold, scary water. And they put food in the water.

Please take me home, so I can eat food on dry land, and not be put in water. I will be the best stuffed iguana friend you ever had.”
