Celene the Gray Stuffed Seal’s First Night As A Stand-up Comic
Well, we’ve managed to capture a few photos, and even a transcription of some jokes, from Celene, our very own stuffed gray seal, at his first night as a stand-up comedian. The house was packed, and we got there late (we’d like to see how easily YOU could pack a giraffe, three monkeys, a yak, a panda, a sockeye salmon, a mountain goat, two llamas, and a box turtle into a single minivan). From where we stood, Celene looked a bit nervous, but eventually, he was a hit. Here are a few zingers from the night:
What do you call the new polar bear at the zoo?
Nothing, you just run away!
What’s a balanced diet to a polar bear?
A seal in each paw!
What do you get when you cross a polar bear with a seal?
A polar bear.
It became apparent halfway through his set that Celene was working out some more serious issues than people had anticipated. A great stand-up once told him that all good comedy comes from pain. Unfortunately, Celene didn’t realize that the comic meant physical pain – you know, something like a penguin slipping on the ice and falling on its butt – that kind of pain. The polar bears in the audience, however, were simply delighted by Celene’s set – so much so that they made friends with him backstage, and vowed never to mistake him for lunch again.
