Back At The StuffedZoo
This time the trip through the shower is quick. I toss on some clothes and head to the StuffedZoo. Fortunately the LA traffic is only heavy…which means it keeps moving and includes the usual friendly acknowledgements along the way. I get to the StuffedZoo about 2:30PM and head back to Finn’s office.
Finn, Karl, Zoe and Jen are all there talking casually and nibbling peanut butter celery sticks. They all look up simultaneously as I walk in the door. Finn, smiling, says, “Great to see you V! Did you get caught up on your sleep?”
I nod, smiling back at him.
“Come and join us. We’ve just been snacking until you got here.” Finn says.
“What’s the occasion?” I ask.
“Mostly, we’re celebrating the addition of a cool stuffed barn owl to our stuffed animal collection and the addition of an intrepid Acquisitioner to the ranks of our distinguished crew…Welcome!” and Finn raises a cup of Kool-Aid in toast.
“You did a great job. Sorry about the little prank that Dinu and I played on you. Actually, it was my idea but I knew he would love his part in it.” Finn says.
“You get the next couple of weeks off before the next mission. I think you earned it. The only thing that I ask is that you come in one day for me to show you some changes I made to the Stuffocator design.
I know you and Karl have some catching up to do so enjoy the break,” Finn says as he sits back down.
“That sounds perfect,” I respond, smiling broadly at Karl. I notice she is smiling back at me too.
“My kid sister, Abby is also planning on coming for a visit. I haven’t seen her in almost a year. She just turned 7. I hope I can bring her in to meet everyone,” I say?
“You bet,” Finn says instantly. He loves kids.
Karl tilts her head slightly cockeyed and says, “I didn’t know you had a 7 year old sister?”
“Casualty of my job,” I reply. “My boss keeps me on the road so much I don’t even have time to get through all the pictures in my wallet.”
“Well we can make some progress on that over dinner tonight!” Karl says as she smiles. “Your turn to buy!”
