Owl Eats Harry Potter - V:Mission 2 Episode 12

Posted May 26th, 2008 by V

By the time we get back to Dinu’s friend’s house it’s getting dark.  A brief conversation interspersed with lots of laughing and we’re almost ready to go.  But first Dinu’s friend comes over to pump my hand up and down vigorously a few times while saying something in Romanian that was clearly supposed to be funny.

I smile and bob my head like I have some sense of what he’s saying then Dinu motions and we get in the truck.  His friend is shouting something at us as we pull away from the house.

“What did he say?” I ask Dinu.

“He was talking about how lucky you are to be with me!” and another chuckle erupts from deep within Dinu.

“We have a few kilometers to go, about 5 minutes drive; then we walk about a kilometer.  I don’t want Horatiu to hear us coming.” Dinu says.

The truck’s headlights are picking out the narrow gravel road from an ever darkening night.  Thick trees line the road tightly on each side giving an enclosed and slightly ominous feel to the drive.

Suddenly the road opens on the left to a large meadow about the size of a soccer field.  Dinu pulls in and parks the truck at the edge of the meadow and shuts off the lights.  Now, in the opening you can see the full moon casting strong shadows from the ring of trees that defines the edge of the meadow.

“We are late.  Hopefully Horatiu is feeling lazy this evening.” Dinu says as he grabs two large flashlights from behind the seat.

He hands one to me and we head off directly across the meadow.  On the way he says, “No more talking.  The flashlight is in case we hear Horatiu’s call.  Then we will try to trap him in the beam of light.  You will have a few seconds to stuffocate him.  Is that enough?”

“Yes.” I say, “But I better get the Stuffocator ready.”

I stop for a second, unzip my duffle bag, toss in the flashlight Dinu just handed me, pull out the Stuffocator and zip the bag back up.  Then I put my hands in the Stuffocator grips and stand back up.  A few LED lights in various colors flash on the Stuffocator as it runs it’s system checks in preparation.  This catches Dinu’s attention.

“What are all the lights?” he asks.

“Just system checks to get ready.  I don’t really understand the details.  Only Finn really knows what’s happening.”

Then we’re off again in silence across the meadow.
