Owl Eats Harry Potter - V:Mission 2 Episode 2

Posted May 5th, 2008 by V

Finn barely slows down at the airport.  Karl and I no sooner emerge from the trunk with our luggage than Finn calls out, “Gotta go.  Big meeting!  Good luck you two.  See you in about a week.  Stay in touch.”  The heat and smell of the exhaust billows around us as we wrestle our gear to the curb.

“He sure seems keyed up about this meeting.”  Karl says.

“Yeah”, I respond, “I wonder what’s going on.”

“It’s kind of strange for Finn.  He likes his time in the lab more than meetings.  Have you ever heard him go on about quarks and pi mesons and string theory?”  Karl asks.

“Sometimes I think he likes all this quantum stuff way more than people.  I know he likes animals way more than people.  My theory is that physics and animals are more predictable.  He likes having a higher probability of understanding an interaction.  People are just too darn messy.

It’s interesting though.  His parents, Mark and Jane, are so nice and loving and supportive.  I wish I understood what went on in that brain of his.”

“Karl I’d love to keep talking but your plane leaves in  20 minutes.  We better get you through security and to the gate.”  I say.

Karl snaps back to the present, grabs her duffle bag and heads toward the security line.  I’m right behind her.

I walk with Karl to gate 72 and it hits me that we’re not going to see each other for at least a week.

“It’s my turn to buy dinner when we get back.  Good luck on the wolf stuffocation.”  Then, leaning down, I give Karl a big goodbye kiss.  For the first time she kisses me back without reservation.

We smile at each other, taking a long look to keep the memory fresh; then turning I head to my international flight in the next terminal building.

I pour all my stuff into one chair and then sit hard in the adjacent seat.  It must have rocked the whole row because the person at the end looked up and gave me a dirty look.

I pull out my Sudoku book and start working on a puzzle but it’s really hard to concentrate.
