Owl Eats Harry Potter - V:Mission 2 Episode 1

Posted May 4th, 2008 by V

We all show up at 8am sharp the next morning.  Karl and I are each lugging our duffle bags with our gear and stuffocators.

Finn says, “I’ll need a few minutes with each of your stuffocators…more updates.”

We unzip our bags and remove our stuffocators and place them on the workroom bench.  I feel uneasy about it.  I’ve noticed that every time I’m not in possession of my stuffocator I tend to get uneasy.  Looking up at Karl I realize that I’m not alone.  She almost looks like she’s ready to have a panic attack.

“It gets harder to let go after each stuffocation.” she explains.  “Finn can’t really explain why it happens.  He just says it’s some mild side effect of stuffocation and not to worry about it.

I suppose he’s right but it doesn’t make me any less anxious.”

“Where are you headed?” I ask Karl.

“Up North.” she replies.  “Looking for a special wolf outside of Fairbanks, Alaska.  How about you?”

“I’m headed to Central Europe.  I guess some kid’s been reading Harry Potter and fell in love with the Central European Barn Owl species.  It’s evidently a unique orange with black spots.” I say.

“Sounds more interesting than a trip to Alaska.” Karl muses.

“If I remember correctly you were the one signing up for wolf duty so quickly.” I say with a touch of sarcasm.

Karl responds, “Okay, maybe I was a little hasty.  I think I was feeling a little competitive.  You seem to bring it out in me.”

Then Karl says in a softly reminiscent voice, “By the way, I really had fun at dinner last night.  Thanks for letting me treat.”

Finn walks in with our stuffocators just then and I realize that our conversation seemed to ease the discomfort of being separated from it.  “Okay, they’re ready to go.  You should have some fun with the new features.”  he says.

“Any hints?” I ask.

“No. No time.  We’ve got to get Karl to the airport.  You’re going to have a bit of a wait though V.  Sorry about that, but I’ve got an appointment this afternoon that’s going to last a while.  Hope you have your Sudoku book.”  Finn says smiling.

It wouldn’t have mattered I decided.  Finn gets a kick out of us figuring out the features on the fly.

We load our stuff into the company car and head off.
