Aquisitioner’s Entry 8: Explanations And A Perfect Dinner With Karl

Posted March 25th, 2008 by V

I barely remember collapsing in my hammock.  It must have been about noon.  Sleep inadequately describes the next 6 hours.  Every part of my body vibrated with the remnant sensation of my first stuffocation.  It was like being simultaneously exhausted and exhilarated.  While I never sensed sleep I also never sensed anything to do with the hut or its occupants.

On waking, I shower and continue to feel the same intensity about everything in the world around me.  Karl comes in just as I finish dressing for dinner.  She looks fantastic!  She’s wearing a tropical flower skirt and light yellow top that fits her form perfectly.  I don’t know if its the heightened sensation from the stuffocation or the outfit but for the first time I see Karl in a totally new way.  I think she senses my feelings but just smiles and says, “I think you owe me a dinner.”

I smile back.

We head back to our breakfast table and find Bahari back on the job.  “Hi!”, she says enthusiastically.  “We missed you for lunch.”

“I slept through it.” I reply and return her smile.

She just nods.  Karl is unusually quite while Bahari brings out some handwritten menus that are attached to woven grass mats for decoration.  Bahari rattles off everything on the menu again but it’s no more effective than this morning’s recitation.

Karl orders a peppermint-mango tea but I feel like something stronger so I order the peach-mango smoothie.  We wait.  Both of us seem to be at peace with the world.

Finally I say, “Why do I feel like this?”

Karl asks, “Feel like what?”

“Peaceful, euphoric, calm and excited.  It’s like everything I see, touch, taste, hear and smell is amplified.  I’ve never known such calm or such excitement.  To have them both occurring at the same time is hard to understand and harder to describe.” I say.

Karl responds slowly, “Yes, I remember.”

She continues a little later, “When you stuffocate an animal you connect with nature directly.  That connection heightens every sensation.  The first few times it overwhelms your mind and body and you have to shut down.

Over time you adapt and you gain strength from the connection.  If you want the scientific explanation ask Finn.  He’ll talk about quantum folds, mass-energy, and lots of other things but the bottom line is you become more tightly bonded to nature.  It’s beautiful and captivating.”

“When you stuffocate an animal how does that help the StuffedZoo?” I ask.  This has been bothering me for some time.

“The essence of the animal is analyzed and recorded…of course there are the things you would expect like, height, weight, texture of skin or fur, coloring and other physical details.” Karl explains.

“But the real essence and the thing that makes the StuffedZoo’s stuffed animals so special is Finn’s formula for capturing the elements that attract us to the animal in the first place.  How do you make a stuffed animal huggable?  How do you make a stuffed animal provide protection to someone who’s afraid of the dark? How do you make a stuffed animal that is ready for any childhood adventure or make-believe?  The stuffocator has a special ability to detect these things and create the perfect stuffed animal.” Karl says as she gets increasingly animated.

“You know how you felt that reverse jolt from the stuffocator?  That’s the exact moment that the stuffocator has figured out how to make the perfect stuffed replica of the real animal.  Some people think the perfect replica means an exact copy but they don’t understand.  The perfect stuffed animal is the one that provides love and companionship no matter how dirty it gets.

Finn explained it this way.  He said, little kids have that same natural connection to the universe that you feel when you stuffocate.  The perfect animal is the one that a child wants because it makes their world whole and loving and perfect.

Once the stuffocator figures out an animal’s essence it transcends space and time and delivers the essence directly to the StuffedZoo in stuffed animal form.  It’s ready to be adopted and loved by some lucky individual that was looking for the same unique features that define the animal.  That’s what makes the StuffedZoo’s animals so special.” said Karl and she took a long drink of her tea.

“I’ll explain more over dessert” she said smiling again.

Clearly she was going to get her money’s worth from this meal.
